NEIGHBORING THE RIGHT WAY

Today's social networking applications haven't really focused on the inherent needs of a neighborhood. The solutions in place have repurposed general social networking paradigms for the use of neighborhoods without a deeper vision of how activity in a neighborhood can manifest from a purpose built application.

-

In one case, this lack of understanding has resulted in an ad supported news feed type application where users see infinite posts from distant neighborhoods. The most popular posts in this application are the ones that raises awareness of some hyperlocal issue, typically a safety or behavioral concern, since they get the most views and comments. There is not much incentive for users to build deep connections with someone so far away even if it is to solve these concerns. In another case, neighborhoods have repurposed a group messaging application to form neighborhood discussion groups. Typically, these groups have gatekeepers who have the thankless job of ensuring that only verified neighbors join the group. Many a times, these gatekeepers become busy with other priorities and the membership approvals in these groups slow down or there are many stale members in the group from old neighbors that are no longer in the neighborhood and who have muted the group. Sometimes these gatekeepers also start controlling aspects of how the community evolves instead of providing equal opportunity to all contributors. Also as the community grows older, the members create many different smaller groups focused on a common interest for a subset of the neighbors. These groups often are not easily discoverable.

-

At Naibly, we are building an application for neighborhoods by putting the needs of individual residents of a neighborhood first and foremost in the context of how we can make their interactions within that neighborhood more positive and holistic while addressing the shortcomings of todays solutions. We are constantly exploring how we can accomplish this. This is our north star. The application that we are building is a social application, not just a social networking application. We also want to make the users of our application more productive and help them get things done beyond just posting and commenting.

-

At Naibly, we appreciate the fact that neighborhoods have historically played a significant role in driving economic value across a variety of areas. Residents often see what is going on in their neighborhood and are inspired to make similar purchases. Often they talk to their neighbor to learn from their experience before making their own purchases. Sometimes a neighborhood also coordinates and makes joint purchases.
-

Typically these joint purchases are focused on standard home maintenance services like gutter cleaning or window washing. Sometimes they even coordinate on custom home improvement projects like a new patio or gazebo. They may also influence each other when researching home theater systems or buying cars.

-

We want to make it fun and easy for neighbors to do all of the above. Though we don't want to just stop there. We believe that neighbors working together can support each other in many more scenarios where they can benefit from outcome oriented communication and coordination. This will result in more informed consumers that are more satisfied since they are more confident of their purchase and they get a better price. Businesses will also benefit from the higher volume of geographically concentrated and satisfied customers and will be able to support them with cheaper prices.

-

We believe that neighborhoods will play an even larger role in the future of our economy, benefiting from key trends and innovation underway today. The result will be a vibrant, connected, creative and proactive neighborhood economy that drives new economic frontiers.

-

We appreciate each and every one of you joining us and supporting us in this journey!
